IOTA Workshops Across 🇻🇳 Vietnam and 🇮🇩 Indonesia
In December 2025, IOTA partnered with Rise In to run a series of workshops across Asia. 🌏
The goal was to onboard developers to the IOTA ecosystem through hands-on learning and help them turn that knowledge into real projects.
The journey started in Hanoi, continued in Ho Chi Minh City, and concluded in Jakarta. Across 2 countries and 3 cities, developers came together to learn, build, and experiment with IOTA in a focused, supportive environment.
Key Results
Across all three workshops, the program delivered strong outcomes:
- 186 developers attended
- 94 projects submitted to Electric Capital
- Average experience score was 4.8/5
Build on IOTA Workshops
Each workshop followed the same structure with a strong focus on hands-on learning. Instead of long theory sessions, participants learned by building, working with real IOTA use cases, and getting direct support from mentors.
Day 1: IOTA Basics and Smart Contracts
The goal of Day 1 was to make sure everyone feel comfortable with the IOTA ecosystem and tools before moving forward.
During Day 1, participants:
- Got an introduction to the IOTA ecosystem and developer workflows,
- Set up their local development environments with mentor support,
- Learned IOTA fundamentals through real, practical examples,
- Walked through basic smart contract development on IOTA.
By the end of Day 1, everyone was fully onboarded and ready to move from learning into building.
Day 2: Building Real Projects
The second day was fully dedicated to hands-on development.
During Day 2, participants:
- Started developing their own project ideas, individually or in small teams,
- Applied what they learned to real use cases,
- Received continuous, 1-1 guidance from mentors,
- Improved their projects based on live technical feedback,
- Prepared their projects for final demos and submission.
Developers were encouraged to try their own ideas and experiment with IOTA. This led to a variety of creative and solid projects and helped create an environment where participants felt comfortable and confident while building.
Workshop Outputs by City
Vietnam 🇻🇳
The IOTA workshops in Vietnam took place in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
In Hanoi, a total of 60 developers attended, 34 projects were submitted!
In Ho Chi Minh City, a total of 95 developers attended, 32 projects were submitted.
Indonesia 🇮🇩
In Jakarta, the workshop stood out with a strong builder-focused mindset from the start. A total of 31 developers attended, 28 projects were submitted.

Why This Program Worked
Hands-on, in-person learning

The Build on IOTA workshops demonstrated that hands-on programs remain a powerful way to onboard developers and activate local ecosystems.
With high satisfaction scores, strong project output, and positive community feedback, this format sets a strong foundation for future IOTA developer programs.
Future programs may include longer build phases, deeper mentorship, and post-hackathon support to help promising projects continue beyond the event
