Activating Vietnam Dev Community for Stacks

Local Execution, Real Impact: Stacks in Vietnam

thumbnail

In 2025, Stacks has already been receiving organic interest, integrations, and developer curiosity in Vietnam. But until GMVietnam 2025, the country’s biggest web3 moment, there wasn’t a deliberate effort to actively engage developers on the ground.

So during GMVietnam 2025, we helped Stacks take that step. With support from the Rise In team, Stacks hosted its first-ever workshop in Vietnam. Not a stage presence, not a brand booth, but a full-day hands-on builder session, right in the heart of Hanoi.

Why Vietnam, Why Now?

Vietnam is the 5th largest crypto market in the world by on-chain activity. In 2024, the country passed a landmark law officially recognizing digital assets, paving the way for serious infrastructure development and positioning itself as one of the most promising web3 markets in Southeast Asia.

But most protocols are still approaching Vietnam from the outside, sponsoring events, doing surface-level marketing, or hosting panels in English to audiences that don’t speak the language.

We decided to go local.

We didn’t just show up at the main conference. We created our own space, in Vietnamese, with builders, for builders.

What We Did

We brought together 100 developers in Hanoi for a two-day Stacks workshop, held just days before GMVietnam. Students, self-taught coders, and aspiring builders showed up ready to learn. Many of them had never written a line of Stacks smart contract code before. But by the second day, they were forming teams and deploying full-stack projects on Stacks.

We answered questions, demoed tools, translated core concepts into Vietnamese, and helped teams debug their first apps. At the end of the event, we had 30 project submissions with working demos.

Even local VCs paid attention. One co-founder of a Vietnam-based fund quietly joined the workshop, sat with the participants, and built alongside them. It is a strong signal of the curiosity and potential around Stacks in the region.

Why This Matters for Stacks

The result?

  • 👩‍💻 100+ new developers introduced to Stacks
  • 🚀 30 early-stage project submissions
  • 🔗 Ecosystem curiosity turned into concrete output
  • 🌏 Stacks introduced in the local language

And, it all happened without Stacks having to send a team or run logistics. We handled the local comms, outreach, education, and execution.

We saw firsthand what works: show up, support people where they are, and let the tools speak for themselves.

Adam Haun, Head of Community Programs Stacks Open Internet Foundation:

“What happened in Vietnam really showed what’s possible when strong local execution connects with a global vision. Rise In introduced Stacks to a high-potential market, while providing a blueprint to activate new regions through developer engagement. Vietnam is one of the most exciting emerging markets in crypto right now, and this was a big first step. We’re excited to keep building on the momentum.”

Key Takeaways for Regional Growth

  • Builders come first. Big events rarely reach them directly.
  • Local execution matters. Language and cultural context define success.
  • Vietnam is emerging. The window to gain early traction is now.
  • Language barrier was real, but not limiting. We had to work through translators and demos, but once builders understood the core ideas, they ran with them.
  • The energy was organic. No shill, no incentives - just genuine curiosity.
